We started our rehearsals straight away. Our first rehearsal was blocking the first act, we were allowed to have our scripts for the blocking but we were set a deadline to have learnt all the lines by and after that we would have to be off book for the next set of first act rehearsals. We had to use a smaller room around the back of the stage, which was hard because as soon as we practiced it on stage we had to adapt to our larger surroundings, all actions needed to be bigger and we had to give dominance on the stage.
As a few of the First Act rehearsals went by, we had director and peer feedback, here is the feedback I was given from Jodie. She played the bad character in her years Pantomime play, so, she has had experience which is positive to have the feedback from. I have taken the feedback on board and had decided to look up some evil characters (which has been posted on to the blog). I looked up pantomime bad guys on Youtube also.
Act 2 was a weaker performance than the first and it was noticeable. It was clear we knew the first acts lines a lot better, as the majority of the cast were stumbling and forgetting lines. So our blocking became stiff. After this the director told us to go over our lines and also learn the cues, not only our own but most of them because that way we would be able to cover or rectify a sticky situation arises. Also knowing a scene change would help us to understand the plot as we are not just learning our lines we are following everyone else to. This helped us to understand the text and it gave the cast a clearer incite to the play we were performing.

In perfomance you are working at a Distinction. You were clearly engaged and focused throughout the process and have an excellent work ethic. You were a delight to direct and you bring a huge amount of independent ideas to the process. So it is important that you demonstrate that in your blog. Here are the grading criteria for you to look over and ensure that your blog contains the correct evidence to gain an overall Distinction.
ReplyDelete“D1 Show a range of detailed responses to source material, in which the possibilities as performance material are explored in a perceptive and comprehensive manner”
This is the grading criteria for this part of the unit.
To achieve at this level you should consider including in your actors workbook/blog the following:
1. How you responded to the script. This should include:
a) marking up your script.
b) Research that you undertook – Did you look up other pantomimes, other actors who had played your role and were there any other influences on how you played your part?
c) Pictures or video clips that you used to illustrate the points you are making. If for example you were influenced by the chuckle brothers, was there a particular scene? If so you can include that scene as evidence.
d) Also how did you respond in rehearsals when asked to do things? were you the first to volunteer if not why not?
e) Were there any exercises that helped you with your character? if so what were they and how did they help.
“D2 Develop and shape the most creative ideas”
This criteria should be evidenced by taking the ideas you explored in the above grading criteria and selecting the ones that you went on to use. Say why you chose them and what you did with them on stage.
D4 “Evaluate the potential of the work in artistic, professional and vocational terms with strengths and weaknesses clearly identified and judgements fully justified and thoughtfully expressed.”
It is important that you discuss your performance in the evaluation as well as the show as a whole. It is important that you identify both strengths and weaknesses. Don’t be afraid to discuss what went wrong too. We learn from mistakes and being able to identify them is critical to not making them again.
Also try to use technical language where appropriate.
Eg. Blocking, Stage directions etc.
